Leadership development

Exceed SCITT and Teaching Schools is delighted to provide a broad range of leadership programmes for schools. We often offer financial discounts to schools meeting specific criteria. Below is a summary of the programmes available and their target audience.

Multi-Academy Trust Leadership Programme

Details of this programme can be viewed via our example programme flier. The dates the programme is available can be accessed via our online prospectus and booking system. Each of the sessions costs £295 to attend; a 10% discount is available when you book to attend all 5 sessions. Contact us for details of the next programme.

Executive Headteacher Network Meetings

This programme has been provided at a discounted rate to Bradford’s primary Executive Headteachers due to funding provided by the Commissioning Board. This is available to Executive Headteachers and those who have completed our Aspiring Executive Headteacher Programme, below, at no cost. Contact us for details of the next event.

Aspiring Executive Headteacher Programme

This programme has been successfully delivered to three cohorts of Aspiring Executive Headteachers. The programme includes visits to Outstanding schools in Bradford and Lewisham, South London. An example flier provides an overview of the programme. Contact us for details of the next event.

Aspiring Head of School/Headteacher Programme

This programme has been successfully delivered to 65 aspiring headteachers from Bradford schools. Like the Aspiring Executive Programme, delegates spend time in Outstanding schools in Bradford and Lewisham, South London.  The programme flier can be downloaded from this link.

National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH)

Like NPQSL and NPQML, we offer a localised NPQH programme through our partnership with Carnegie Leaders in Learning (Leeds Becket University) and Northern Light Teaching School Alliance. Horton Grange Primary School is a named Lead School for this DfE licence. Contact us for details of the next event.

Future Leaders

Future Leaders is a two-year leadership development programme for Deputy (and Assistant in certain schools) Heads who share our commitment to eradicating educational disadvantage, and have the talent and commitment to become headteachers of schools in challenging contexts within three years. Participants can gain NPQH through this programme.

The Future Leaders programme has a strong record for achieving impact. Leaders who have completed the programme have seen substantial improvements in outcomes for the children they serve. In Areas 5 and 6, 85% of schools led by a Future Leader for two or more years have Progress 8 results above their Local Authority average.

Over the two years, the Future Leaders programme includes:

  • Intensive leadership development training including 3 whole-cohort weekends and 3 one-day learning events
  • 6 day summer residential event in year one and a 4 day summer residential event in year two delivered by expert facilitators
  • 12 coaching sessions from our pool of experienced headteachers and executive coaches
  • Visits to exemplary schools across England
  • Career development and guidance

The cost to schools is £1,500 per person per year. There is a 20% discount off year one (£1,200) for schools which nominate staff who apply before 21st January 2018, supporting schools to retain their best staff.

Ambition School Leadership work exclusively with schools in challenging contexts. They define this as schools which meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Ever 6 FSM of 20% or over or;
  • The value-added progression for disadvantaged pupils in reading, writing or maths is below 0
  • OR Ever6 FSM is above 25% AND value added progression for all pupils in reading, writing or maths is below 0
  • OR % all pupils meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths is below 65% AND where value added score for reading is below -5 or for maths is below -5 or for writing is below-7.

National Professional Qualification for Senior Leaders (NPQSL)

We offer a localised NPQSL programme through our partnership with Carnegie Leaders in Learning (Leeds Becket University) and Northern Light Teaching School Alliance. Horton Grange Primary School is a named Lead School for this DfE licence. The six full-day events are delivered with a local context by local school leaders at a local venue, Horton Grange Primary School – our Leadership Campus. Teaching Leaders Primary

Teaching Leaders Primary is a one-year high-impact leadership development programme for middle (and newly appointed senior) leaders in primary schools serving pupils from challenging contexts. The programme helps schools to achieve their School Improvement Goals by equipping leaders with the skills and tools they need to lead their areas focusing on pupil outcomes in reading, writing and numeracy and narrowing the achievement gap. Participants can gain NPQSL through this programme.

TL Primary is a selective programme, with the assessment and selection processes ensuring participants form a network of like-minded, ambitious individuals.

 The leadership programme includes:

  • An impact project focused on raising attainment and accelerating pupil progress
  • 9 leadership development seminars (delivered locally, outside of school time) developing practical leadership skills and competencies
  • 4 Challenge Days bringing together the network for collaborative learning
  • 6 1:1 coaching sessions with an experienced head or senior leader
  • Access to a local and national network of primary middle leaders
  • A 5-day summer residential (or 3-day weekend residential in September if candidates are unable to make the summer dates)

To ensure we can support school leadership development, we are also able to offer a leadership subsidy to Bradford schools of 50% subsidy, reducing Route 2 of the programme to £500 for the year. If schools nominate before 21st January 2018, they can take advantage of an additional 20% discount meaning the programme costs £400.

Emerging Middle Leaders Programme – Spring 2018

This programme, developed by the Bronte Academy Trust and Exceed Teaching Schools, is for teachers who are preparing for their first middle leadership role. It has been specifically designed for aspirational leaders, or those who have recently taken up middle leadership responsibilities.

The programme aims to equip participants with the key skills and knowledge required to perform effectively in this initial leadership role. Opportunities to learn from the work and experiences of existing middle leaders and support to plan and lead an improvement project in participants’ own schools, will be given. Governor Training and Development Programme

Please find below details of our April 2017-March 2018 service level agreement (SLA) for Exceed SCITT and Teaching Schools’ Governor Training and Development Programme. This is a new and unique offer, including:

  • All subscribing schools having access to an in-house governor training event: Governor training delivered in your school for your governors when you want it
  • Access to our Governor Training Programme: Scheduled events for individual governors to attend at Canterbury Nursery School and Centre for Children and Families
  • Copies of our ‘Governance in Practice’ self-study materials relating to the key scheduled training events (even if you don’t attend the supporting training events!)

More comprehensive details are available in our Governor Training and Development Programme brochure.  At just £475 per school we believe this offers excellent value for money. To subscribe to the SLA, please complete and return the SLA available here. We only intend to make this service available to 20-25 schools. Please return the signed SLA as soon as possible. Our scheduled events can be booked now, for subscribing schools, on Eventbrite.
