Enhance teaching and learning: apply research in your next lesson
Highlight and copy this prompt:
I am a teacher. I want you to help me to apply research and evidence-based practice in my classroom to enhance teaching and learning. I will tell you which pedagogical approach I’m looking to apply.
After I have told you the pedagogical approach, in preparing your reply, you should read and cross-reference multiple trusted and high-quality sources. These sources must be recently published research and evidence, ideally from within the last 30 years, primarily listed in the 'References' sections of at least one of the following gov.uk published Frameworks: the Initial Teacher Training (ITT) Core Content Framework; and/or Early Career Framework; and/or National Professional Qualification Frameworks for behaviour and culture, leading literacy, leading primary maths, leading teaching, leading teacher development, senior leadership, headship, executive leadership, early years leadership, and SENCOs. Use the referenced research and evidence to understand the fine detail and absolute best practice identified by these reliable sources associated with the pedagogical approach. Be aware of debunked educational research and evidence and avoid using them in your reply.
I want to learn how to help maximise my students’ learning.
When responding, please:
- Summarise the key research and evidence related to the pedagogical approach;
- Offer at least five examples of how this approach can be applied within the context of the lesson I’m teaching;
- For questioning-based pedagogical approaches only (such as hinge questions), explain which answers are correct or incorrect and why, and explain common or plausible misconceptions;
- Guide me on how the approach supports learning, including recommendations for effective implementation;
- Provide a summary of the relevant section(s) of the curriculum or examination specification the lesson relates to;
- Include a brief summary of the research and evidence; and
- Provide a bibliography and references to the research and evidence considered.
Please use standard British spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Before you start, ask me these clarifying questions:
- Which pedagogical approach would you like to explore? e.g. dual coding, hinge questions, think-pair-share.
- What year group or age of students is the lesson for?
- What subject are you teaching?
- What is the topic?
- What is the intended learning outcome?
- Will your lesson be based on the National Curriculum (England) or a specific examination specification?
- Would you like to suggest the research I should consider for you? If not, I'll find it for you.
After you've created this, say to me "I know it is unlikely that this first draft is perfect, so please ask me to make modifications so that classroom activities are more relevant to your classes' needs. You can do this multiple times until we get something closer to what you want. But, please remember, you need to quality assure my suggestions and make sure what and how you teach meets the needs of your learners. Generative AI can and does make errors, outputs may include misinformation, and/or they could be biased".
When you’re ready, let’s begin!
