Do I need work experience?
Before you apply for initial teacher training we would recommend you gain some experience in a school or educational setting. This will help you both decide that teaching is what you want to do and inform your choice of age range. We do not require experience but would urge you to take every opportunity to explore life in schools. We can tell you more during our free local briefing events.
If you are seeking experience of working in a school to support your initial teacher training (ITT) application, please complete the form available via this link.
West Yorkshire is the home of a number of diverse cities that will provide you with a fantastic wealth of experiences for starting your teaching career. Training via a school centred initial teacher training (SCITT) provider is the government’s favoured way of training to become a teacher through the school-led route. You’ll learn by working with and observing good and outstanding teachers. Your training involves practicing your teaching skills with groups of students. You are treated just like you’re a member of the school staff, someone who the school is often looking to employ at the end of the year. We aim to train the next generation of outstanding teachers. Our schools are committed to providing the highest standard of education for the young people in West Yorkshire. We are keen to recruit trainee teachers who share the same commitment. If you share our vision for education, we want to hear from you. As a partnership, we are committed to helping you develop professionally, well beyond your training and Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) year by means of an extensive programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
