Scholarships

DfE has provided funding for schools in Opportunity Areas, such as Bradford, and high priority local authority areas at no cost. Schools accessing this pay the cost of the programme in advance and are them reimbursed by Carnegie Leaders once DfE releases the scholarship funds. However, if demand for funding is high, the DfE may need to implement their prioritisation criteria in relation to the availability of these scholarships. The DfE will be reviewing the financial position regularly and will keep providers updated. If you have any queries about this, please contact Carnegie Leaders.

A reminder of the prioritisation criteria is set out below:

In the event of over subscription for the scholarship funding the DfE will apply the following criteria:

  1. NPQ course participants working in a school in an Opportunity Area, where the school is also below the Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 4 floor standards;
  2. All other NPQ course participants working in Opportunity Areas;
  3. NPQ course participants working in schools where more than 30% of pupils receive Free School Meals;  and
  4. Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) NPQ course participants.

The DfE reserves the right to withdraw scholarships. We wish to make you aware that the DfE has alerted NPQ Providers that there is a risk that participants starting programmes post March 2019 from current scholarship areas may not be funded. The DfE has assured us though that they are lobbying to retain the scholarship budget and will inform us of the outcome. We will let you know about any changes to the scholarship funding post March and if it may impact on you proceeding with the programne as soon as I have confirmation from the DfE.
